Today my team lost 18-6. The other team was making layups, setting screens and generally doing all kinds of things my kids will never ever be able to do.
One is terrified of the ball and ducks out of the way whenever it comes near him. One runs with it without dribbling -- just running around, ball in hand, until the ref finally calls a travel. One of the tallest kids is stuck to the floor and refuses to jump for rebounds. One shoots a basketball like the rest of us throw a football (although in his defense, he did make one of our three shots today). And one of our point guards just dribbles directly into his defender, hands him the ball and then runs alongside the kid while he dribbles to the other end of the court and makes a layup.
I'm thinking of recruiting Gizmo to be our power forward. I don't think it would hurt.
