I started my day today as everyone should -- petting cats. Two municipalities are entering into a shared service agreement with their animal control services, cutting costs and therefore property taxes, etc., etc., etc., and I was able to use the opportunity to pet cats.
There was one awesome one, a white and brownish-grey stray that came in two days ago and I'm sure will get adopted very quickly. He/she (I dunno because you can't hold them until the eight days passes) rubbed up against the bars of its cage all sexy-like and even batted his/her little paw at me when I wasn't providing enough love.
Of course, for every good story...
Another cat there, a long-haired grey adult cat had been dropped off by her owners. Apparently they didn't want to take care of her anymore, for whatever reason. She was laying quietly up against the side wall, looking out the front of the cage. She was very skeptical of visitors, and I don't blame her, given that her family just deserted her. The shelter guy assured me that they'd find a home for her (and judging by the empty cages around the room, she's probably OK for now), but the fact that people don't take responsibility for their pets is sickening. Can you imagine just pawning a life off on a government service? Just walking away and figuring that that life isn't your responsibility anymore?
I just don't understand how a person can do that...
