Ahh, local TV news

The local news in New Jersey is all based in New York, and generally has nothing to do with New Jersey unless something super-TV-newsworthy happens, like a bank robbery or car chase.

So yesterday's bank robbery *leading* to a car chase was a grand slam.

I was watching my typical three Thursday night hours of ABC last night and before I switched to Jon Stewart's grilling of Jim Cramer, the local ABC news came on.

Tonight, Madoff pleads guilty to all charges but first, A BANK ROBBERY IN NEW JERSEY LEADS TO A CRAAAAAZY CHASE THROUGH *TWO* NEW JERSEY COUNTIES!!!!!

I was intrigued. I had slinked out of the newsroom just as the call was coming in about the bank robbery, but it hadn't sounded quite as exciting as ABC was implying. So I kept watching.

The two counties they were talking about? Middlesex and Somerset. They border each other. The town where the bank is located and the town where the suspects were caught? Franklin and New Brunswick. They border each other.

Theoretically, the bank robbers could have hopped six inches from Somerset County into Middlesex County.

In fact, it was a little further from Point A to Point B, about three miles down a heavily-trafficked stretch:

But seriously? A "craaaaaazy" chase through TWO New Jersey counties? This is what's wrong with TV news. Seriously.
