I went to Auschwitz yesterday but I've got 11 minutes till I get booted off this thing, so I'll save that description for next time, and stick to Warsaw and Krakow.
My second day in Warsaw I went to the Russian Market, an enormous outdoor market situated around an entire coliseum. It wraps around the coliseum twice, and you can buy everything from Nike and Adidas shoes to batteries to shaving products to underpants. I didn't buy anything, but the girl I was with (Whadup, Jamie) needed underpants. It was a good time trying to bargain for underpants in Polish.
We also went to Pawiak Prison, the prison for the Warsaw ghetto. There were cells built for one to two people where they would cram 15 in. Looking at it, I tried to imagine where everyone would sleep, and there's absolutely no way they all were able to lie down if they didn't pile on top of each other like sardines.
I did more I can't think of now, so I'll move on...
Krakow
Krakow is actually an amazing city. I spent a lot of time roaming around Kazimierz, what used to be the Jewish district. I also ventured into a cafe there, which turned out to be the most American place I've been in the last month and a half. In Poland. Go figure.
Easter here is huge though... everyone's running around to the gazillions of different churches, Easter baskets in hand.
Well, the computer's telling me it's about to log me off, so I should post this before I lose it all. I'll probably write a substantial post about Krakow and Auschwitz tomorrow, since just about everything will be closed anyway on account of Easter. Otherwise, I'll post from Prague...
